You know how they say “home is where your dog is”? Well, we agree. Your dog, cat, parrot, chameleon even… is as much a part of your family as your annoying little brother. And they will always be happy to see you. So when you’re doing up your home, his/her safety and comfort is always a consideration. Houzify has put together some thoughts and ideas for the committed pet-owner! Enjoy!

FLOORING

What’s the best flooring for your furry friends? Usually tile, marble, cement or stone. Which is to say, if you have an active pet running around your home, don’t lay wooden floors in places where they’re allowed. Especially if you have a hound or a cat, your beautiful (and likely, expensive) wooden floor will have scratches pretty soon! A strong tile or marble is more durable to those doggie paws running after a ball or your cat stretching after a good siesta!

OUTDOOR SPACES

The best thing you could do for your pet is get a house with a large garden or patio space where they can soak up the sun and run around with a ball. In apartments, a terrace garden could also work, if you have a cat or a smaller dog. Large open spaces are the best and will guarantee you happy pet!

COZY CORNERS

If every member of your home has their own space, your pet deserves one too. Choose a corner that doesn’t get in anyone else’s way, but also has shade and quiet. Find doggie mattresses in local pet stores like Paws, off Brigade Road, Bangalore or online at Heads Up For Tails (http://www.headsupfortails.com)!

You can even get your quilting skills on with some scrap material and make something special yourself! Dogs ove comfy cushions, textured carpets and layers to burrow into and your cat might just want a window sill or a perch to watch over everyone from.

Although, we must warn you… sometimes they love the space you create…
