This beautifully curated home décor store is a gem hidden in the quite by-lanes of Panampilly Nagar in Kochi. Started hardly a year ago, Ethnic Creations is actually the second store opened by the owner, Neena Jayasankar. Her initial store, located in the centre of the city in a 100-year-old building, stocks antique furniture and houses her workshop. This store is a treasure trove for antique hunters in search of that exclusive piece, perfect for that empty space begging for attention.
The Panampilly Nagar store is a treat for any shopper. The stock keeps varying and expecting the unexpected is the norm. I spy a blue rocking horse and a simply enormous porcelain pickle jar encased in intricately woven cane. From heavily carved rosewood antique furniture and lilies made of shell to coloured bottles and a string of feathered beauties for your balcony, there is no rhyme or reason for the eclectic spread. The elegant décor coupled with the gurgling sound of the waterfall creates a magical shopping experience.
Neena personally designs pieces like mirrors, nested tables, towel rods, shelves and other knickknacks, incorporating tile and carved bits to create beautiful décor products that are affordable and unique. Her policy is to never compromise on quality and adhere to the client’s need and budget. Around 30% of the store’s collection is antique, while the rest are antique replicas modified to suit contemporary needs in terms of style, design, and utility.
The stock is sourced from all over and lately, they have started to stock accessories like cushion covers, artwork, dhurries, planters, décor accessories, terracotta, and fascinating bric-a-brac sourced even from far away Africa. The only thing missing is a cup of coffee and a slice of carrot cake to make it perfect!
It surely is a unique home décor store – set up like a home, but you can purchase everything that you like. A wonderful idea we see. If you want to visit, here is the address.
