Carlton Braganza, whose spectacular Bangalore home we have featured on Houzify before, is famous for having impeccable taste. Trust him to find an absolutely stunning house in Goa, barely 10 minutes from the airport and even less from the heart-stoppingly beautiful Bogmalo beach.
Painted completely in white on the outside, with blue trimming, the house just appears as you drive around a light slope up a hill. A large gate opens into a garden space surrounding the house and cobblestones lead you up to the front door.
The most striking feature of the living room is the floor – beautifully done with tiles in a pattern of mustard yellow, blue and a touch of orange. The rich colours are offset by dark wooden furniture; a coffee table and Victorian-style chairs brought in from Mumbai. The chairs are upholstered with a patterned fabric in a deep blue, bringing out the colour in the floor.
The bungalow has narrow corridors and steep staircases, leading downstairs to one bedroom, upstairs to two more and further up to a terrace space. The walls carry on them art work of different kinds – paintings from around the world, a brass wall hanging of the sun and moon and a bright red clock adding a splash of colour.
The bedrooms are simple and tasteful. The comfortable, cane furniture, subtle bedside lighting, large windows, and long flowing curtains all reflect the breezy, holiday mood that seems to envelop every Goa home. The bedrooms are private and cozy, with ample light and fresh air coming through the large windows; perfect for a lazy afternoon with a good book!
Another stunning feature in this already gorgeous home is the terrace. “This is my favourite part of the house. Sitting here, and watching the planes come in”, says Carlton. Complimenting the white and blue colours of the outside of the home, little white and blue tiles make a mosaic that immediately catch the eye… that is, of course, till one notices the open bar and grill in the corner. Complete with fridge, and storage space, this setup means that one never really has to leave the terrace at all!
Time and time again, we find that the nicest homes are the ones that reflect the people in it and the environment it is set in. And this home is everything that we love the most about Goa – cozy, breezy, chilled out, set in the hills and walking distance from the ocean!
