Being close to Christmas, hosting a New Year party often becomes and entertaining afterthought at the end of a whirlwind holiday season. So, this New Year’s, make a décor checklist for your party to give it the treatment it deserves. With a little rearranging and additions, you can easily turn your décor into a space fit to wave a good year off.

Presenting: Our curated checklist for hosting the ultimate New Year’s party.

Set the mood: Soaked in the exuberant holiday spirit, you can choose to be cozy or something as funky as Hollywood glamour; your mood will help you decide the décor.

Sequins for instant vibe: If you do not want to change your décor too much, add some sequined pieces to give your existing décor a party vibe. I love this cushion cover from Urban Ladder – it effortlessly gets in a festive vibe without being in your face.

Champagne Centerpiece: Double your centerpiece as a lovely display – a tray with champagne, an ice bucket, glasses and flowers if you have space. This will ensure your guests have their bubbly handy which also doubles as a centerpiece that exudes party cheer. Check this perfect set in gold from pepperfry which you can own or give as a gift!

Prevent Stains: You do not want to wake up in a messy home on new year, with loads of laundry to cater to. Choose tablecloths that are waterproof and wash easily. For exposed wooden surface, keep coasters and tissues handy. Check this cute coaster by The Label Life which has totally got me hooked on to it!

Vote for balloons: If you think balloons were for kids, think again. Balloons can be the perfect way to add some party cheer – colorful helium filled balloons with long ribbon ties; right there is confetti that stays! Alternatively, tie some balloons to the chairs or use them as place cards and you’ll add some much needed pop to the party!

Turn a wall into a photo booth: Make sure your party memories stay fresh in your mind for years to come! Turn a blank wall into a photo booth by adding mirrors, glitter drapes or confetti. You can also hang fairy lights on a white or black backdrop to get a fabulous bokeh effect. Keep some props handy for your friends to use while taking photographs. Check out A Beautiful Mess – a blogger I avidly follow – for some ideas!

Edible Glitters: Okay, we are really not venturing into the food section but we do think that edible glitter can very well pass off as a décor element. Dip the rim of your wine glasses in water or rub the rim with a wet cotton and dip it in edible glitter. Now, set a party tablescape with these glasses and see how the look dramatically changes!

Do the lot with lights: Just a couple of strands of fairy light can do wonders to your party décor. Hang them overhead to make a marquee, wrap them around the legs of your table or carelessly let them line your floor. There is no party without fairy lights.

Use up your jam jars: For your party table, use empty jam jars as candle holders. Why? Because they are tough, won’t topple easily and if they do break you won’t feel all that bad either. *wink*
